Backyard Farm Stories
On warm, sunny days, my chickens bathe in dirt. They scratch until they’ve got a nice hole. Then they flop into it and engage in a flipping, scooching, rolling, kicking extravaganza. It is often a group event; the more dirt flying through the air, the better.
Google says birds do this to rid themselves of lice. However, there are no bugs on my chickens so I can only surmise that they do it because it feels good and it’s fun. Chicken Happiness is as simple as a bunch of good friends and a big pile of dirt.
